MUZZLE - 3/31/2026
Live at The Rockwell, Somerville, MA
MUZZLE saw out the month of March with a killer opening set at The Rockwell Theater on Tuesday night. Setting the tone for LA’s zzzahara as part of their tour with support from Bleary Eyed, Muzzle engaged the crowd early and left a strong impact on everyone in attendance. Opening with Fast World, the Boston-based four-piece left it all on stage.
Muzzle’s unique sound was on clear display: noisy, mathy, raw. Shoegaze-y, yet firmly grounded in what they described as “guitar music,” Somerville got a taste of a dynamic project fit for the Boston scene. Dev and Jack complemented each other on the guitar. The room was full. Punchy. Twinkling. Muzzle’s unique sound: loud and robust.
Dev pairs various open tunings with the low ends of Jack’s drop tunings, supported by a sweeping bassline and drums that ebb and flow seamlessly between transitions. Ultimately, they closed out with stunning renditions of their 2025 release single, 2 Feet Up and Over, and, finally, the unreleased Save Your Magic.
Muzzle views songwriting as finding a solution to finding space sonically. Doubling bass lines, rhythms, and riffs, they attempt to make sense of chaos. Muzzle masterfully crafts openings in the background of a wall of guitars for striking melodies and wild dynamic shifts throughout their sets.
They described their set list as deeply intentional, with dynamics centered at the forefront of an emotionally gripping, yet skillfully curated tug-of-war. With two years under their belt, and many years of practice to back it up, the Berklee quad have demonstrated a staying power in the local scene, and have sights on the horizon for more.
